WB4CHK SMT PC Board Amplifier Implementation

Dave Rogers, WB4CHK used the basic idea of creating a small pc board for implementing a surface mount version of the 23 dB gain amplifier. He built the amplifier to drive the digital display in his recently completed 2N2/20 Transceiver. The design of that rig is here.

With Dave's permission, his amplifier implementation is shown on this page for others to see and use.

SMT pc board layout
This is Dave's SMT PC Board layout for the amplifier. He uses MS Paint to do the layout, with the various pads being primitive shapes he has created and saved for reuse in Paint.
Overlay for parts placement
He also created a parts placement and identification overlay for his amplifier board. The passive parts are 0805 sized with the transistors having SOT-23 footprints.
Etched pc board
A finished pc board is shown here.  Dave uses PnP Blue (TM) film ironed on to blank pc board stock to apply the etching pattern, and then etches the board in ferric chloride or ammonium persulfate solution to remove the unwanted copper.
Built pc board
This is the above board with all of the parts soldered in place. The small colored standoffs are the input, output, and power connections.
